Traffic ControlI WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU MY WORLD – TRAFFIC CONTROL, ATLEAST HOW IT ALL STARTED FOR ME. . .

I do say traffic control, not flagging because traffic control opens up another world of opportunities so you can work in other job-related positions rather than only direct traffic.

In June 1987, I took the TCP course  and received my TCP certificate.  Shortly after I started work for a paving company and was employed with them until the company sold in 2001.

I started out as a ‘flagger’ and through hard work and dedication became the ‘traffic control supervisor’.    When there was no flagging needed but traffic control set-ups were required, I assembled and disassembled the traffic control work zone.

I was  assigned the task of developing safe work procedures for the crew and truck drivers who worked on site.  The company trained me to labour and operate equipment.Traffic control has opened many doors for me.  It has given me the opportunity to choose my path within the industry I find so challenging.

In February 2012, I took the Construction Safety Officers program at BCIT.  It was a facinating and complex course which I successfully completed.

Today I wear many hats but I’m still a Traffic Control Person.

I wanted to share my story with you because even though the years have passed, there are still opportunities in our industry if you seek them out.
